Temperature Method
The basal body temperature rises by 0.2 – 0.4 C following ovulation, because of progesterone secretion from the corpus luteum.
Cervical mucus (Billing’s) Method
At the time of ovulation, cervical mucus becomes excessive, clear, and stretchy under the influence of estrogen. This is called fertile mucus (peak mucus).
Four days following peak mucus day, the mucus becomes thick, sticky, and opaque because the estrogen level has dropped.
