Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anus
Cancer of the squamous cell of the anus. THIS IS NOT SYNONYMOUS WITH RECTAL CANCER. Linked with HPV and anal intercourse. More favourable prognosis than colorectal cancer
- Signs and symptoms
- Perianal pain and pressure
- Anal discharder and/or leeding
- Itching
- Internal iliac or ilioinguinal lymphadenopathy
- Changes in bowel habits
- Changes in stool caliber
- Weight loss (advanced cancer)
- Investigations
- DRE: appreciate mass
- Anoscopy or proctosigmoidoscopy: formal diagnosis and biopsy
- Treatment
- Nigro chemoradiation protocol: Radiation + chemotherapy (5-FU, Mitomycin)
- Excision of residual tumor (after protocol)
