Cancer of the squamous cell of the anus. THIS IS NOT SYNONYMOUS WITH RECTAL CANCER. Linked with HPV and anal intercourse. More favourable prognosis than colorectal cancer

  • Signs and symptoms
    • Perianal pain and pressure
    • Anal discharder and/or leeding
    • Itching
    • Internal iliac or ilioinguinal lymphadenopathy
    • Changes in bowel habits
    • Changes in stool caliber
    • Weight loss (advanced cancer)
  • Investigations
    • DRE: appreciate mass
    • Anoscopy or proctosigmoidoscopy: formal diagnosis and biopsy
  • Treatment
    • Nigro chemoradiation protocol: Radiation + chemotherapy (5-FU, Mitomycin)
    • Excision of residual tumor (after protocol)
