Welcome!
Hyperexcision is a free online platform designed by medical students to assist medical students in preparing for their examinations. This website provides a range of resources and materials to enhance studying and support you in your academics. Our website encourages active learning, a proven technique to help you remember what you learn and apply it when it counts.
We recommend using our website to supplement your traditional classroom learning and clinical placement, instead of replacing it. The content has not been scrutinised scientifically, but is based on peer-reviewed sources and well known facts in medicine. We have done our best to ensure that the content is accurate and complete, and we have provided a list of sources for further reading.
How You Can Use this Website
We’ve designed our platform to fit into your study routine, whether you’re studying alone or with a group. Here are a few tips:
1. Self-Questioning with Toggle Lists: Our Clinical Approach uses toggle lists that act as questions for you to test yourself on key topics. Think of them as digital flashcards! You can use them to quiz yourself, or even better, as prompts for group study sessions.
2. Spaced Repetition: To help you retain what you learn, we recommend revisiting topics regularly. Our platform makes it easy to come back to the material at different intervals to reinforce your knowledge and keep it fresh.
3. Q-Bank for Exam Practice: Practice makes perfect. Our question bank is designed to help you integrate and apply the knowledge you’ve gained through your studies. You can find questions linked directly to our cheat sheets under the Knowledge Check section on each cheat sheet, making it easy to test your understanding of key concepts. You can choose to answer these questions before reviewing the cheat sheet to gauge your current knowledge, or after, to reinforce what you have learned. In general, there are 3 levels of questions a)Rote memory questions, b) memory questions that require more understanding of the material, and c) questions that require both understanding and judgement. The questions have been designed to ensure clarity, accuracy, and relevance. This way they facilitate effective learning and preparation for exams.
4. Cheat Sheets: These are concise notes which break down complex concepts in each topic into key points. These notes focus on the most important information you need to know, and are perfect for a quick revision session.
5. Weekly “Topic of the Week”: Each week, we highlight a speciality/subject and present a random assortment of 20 – 25 trivia questions to help you practice and recall the content. Questions for past weeks can be revisited at the TOTW page.
